We woke up today to find no sea or sky, just fog. We're supposed to be viewing the Hubbard Glacier, but very early on, we had to stop about 9 miles away because of the zero visibility. We hung around for about an hour waiting to see if the fog would lift. It didn't, so we had to move on it make it to Seward in time. We were really disappointed. All we got to see was lots of ice floating in the water around the ship (see photo) and the regular sound of the ship's fog horn.
So we had a slow morning. No 3G, no glacier. We read and worked on our logs. Once we got underway, we were going the fastest I think we've been since the first day. You can really feel the ship rolling more, but still, it's not too bad.
At 11:30, we went to the pool deck and watched an ice sculptor sculpt. He use wood working tools and finished it very quickly. You can see from the photo he carved a bear. After the carving, we went to lunch at the regular cafe. We walked a different way through the ship and saw the wine bar, which we'd never seen before. They had these cool wine dispensers that almost made me want to have a glass of wine (see photo).
In the afternoon, the fog wasn't as bad, but we still could only see sea and clouds. We read and took naps.
Before dinner, we had got martinis at the martini bar. Sandra got another 3G martini, but it was made by a different bartender and he put simple syrup in it and it was too sweet. I had a classic martini with olives. We listened to one of our favorite bands that we'd heard and then went in to dinner.
We were only two couples again at dinner. It's getting a little less weird eating with these folks I guess because they feel less unfamiliar. Sandra and I both had Osso Bocca, which was very delicious. For dessert I had a cannoli, which was okay, but not great. The cream was more like whipped cream than ricotta. Sandra had a chocolate cake-like dessert that tasted good.
Then we went to the casino (see photos). It was a nice casino in that there was no smoking. We played a regular slot machine for a little while, but that wasn't much fun to me. It was just putting in your money and then pushing a button. So we switched to the poker machine, and that was more fun because get to decide which cards to hold. I lost all my original $10 in about an hour (I won a lot, but lost even more.)
It was 9pm when we went back to our room. We had to get packed and have our bags outside our room before 11pm for them to prepare them for offloading. Once we had our bags packed, we went to bed.
