Ghosts and Goodtime Girls 4 (Wednesday)

After the champagne toast, we toured the part of the house where the cribs had been. You could see the hole in the floor where the women would drop their money when they were finished where it would go down a copper tube to the bar. The bar tender had a row of dolls on the bar, each made up like the women upstairs. When a customer picked a girl, that doll was laid on its back until the bartender heard the money (most likely gold nuggets) come down the pipes and into the safe box for that woman. Then he would set the doll back up to show that woman was available.

There was a long hall upstairs where the cribs were. The photo here shows a mock up of what a room might look like. The women lived in the rooms and so each decorated their own room with their own wall paper. They found many layers of wallpaper in the rooms and had several examples of it framed on the wall. You could see places on the walls where the wallpaper had peeled revealing other wallpaper. The bed in the room is really narrow, really cot-sized.

We really enjoyed this tour.
