This hotel is the haunt of a ghost of a woman who came to Skagway because her fiancé wrote to her that he had struck it rich and she should come and they would get married. She came to Skagway and waited in the hotel, watching out the window every day, but her fiancé never came. Finally, the hotel owner found her lying dead on the bed in her wedding dress. People supposedly still see her ghost in the hotel.
Women in the dance halls each had their own routine. One woman did a dance with scarves. At the end of here dance, she had to drop to the floor and cover her face as the men would pelt her with gold nuggets and she had to protect her face. Another woman would hold up her skirt enough to show her ankle and the men would throw nuggets into the pocket formed by her skirt. As her skirt got full, she would make a bigger pocket by raising her skirt more, each time exposing more and more.
