There's gold... (Tuesday)

We got on a shuttle at the pier to go panning for gold. Our guide was Klondyke Kai. He was dressed in rubber boots flannel shirt and hat, mostly like a prospector only must cleaner and less crusty looking. We drove through the mountains and forest to the panning claim about 25 minutes from Juneau. We hiked a short way into the forest past old rusty train cars to the creek where we to pan.

Kai brought us pans already filled with sand and gravel. That's when we realized that they had "special" sand for us that we would be sure to find gold in.

Kai demonstrated how to get water in the pan and shake it front to back to bring the dirt and gravel to the top and let the gold, which is heavier sink to the bottom.

Here's Sandra demonstrating how to get water in the pan.
