We have been here two days. The hotel is very nice. We our on the edge of a river and we have seen many rafters going down the river. I am a little jealous. I would have liked to have gone rafting but because the water is so cold they require dry suits which I do not like. I feel claustrophobic in dry suits.
We had a long train ride here so we went for a walk once we got to the hotel. We wanted to walk around theses 3 small lakes, however we just went past one. The skies cleared shortly after we started walking and the temperature quickly reached into the high 70's. We got very hot and the walk from the hotel to the trail head was a mile away. When we got back we were exhausted. I think all this running around is catching up to us. Oops, this paragraph was about our day in Talkeetna. My mind is mush, if I do not write things down daily it is easy to get confused.
Today we went on an 8 hour bus tour of the Tundra Wilderness. It was scenic, although Mt. McKinley was covered in clouds. We only saw a small portion of it. We were told over and over about all the animals we would see. We did see a grizzly bear, caribou, moose, Dall sheep a few smaller animals, however only one bear, one moose, two caribou. I expected to see much more since they are supposed to be plentiful and the weather was cooler and more likely to bring the animals out.
I am grateful to have seen these animals, only wish there had been more given we were out there for so long. And yes, 8 hours on a bus is a long time. The driver slash guide was wonderful and was a fountain of information.
We both wish we had been given more time to go on a hike in the national park on our own as we thought we were going to have. Being on our own would have been more peaceful (less people) and we could go at the pace we wanted. We have been surrounded by many, many people for 11 days now, it's time for a little solitude.
I am listening to and watching the river from my room right now and enjoying the peacefulness, and can not think anymore.
